There are thousands of wells on the northern slopes of Alaska, most of which are horizontal wells that use hydraulic fracturing to increase production or produce natural fractures. The proppant return and fine particles of the oil layer can cause the oil well to block up, seriously affecting the well production. For most sand production wells, a coiled tubing cutout is commonly used, where nitrogen is used to lift the cleaning solution and suspend the proppant to bring it to the surface. However, this method is not technically or economically viable due to the low pressure in some wells, resulting in significant nitrogen consumption. This article describes a new method of well section cleaning that uses a concentric coiled tubing with a downhole vacuum to clear the packing and proppant. The application of new technology to the northern slope of Alaska has yielded satisfactory results
