保定陆军军官学校,是我国近代一所规模较大的正规化军事学校,在中国近代军事史上有着重要的地位。权威性工具书《辞海》(1979年第1版)所载“保定军官学校”一词说:军校于1920年停办。笔者认为,这有悖史实,应该纠正。 保定军官学校于1912年10月正式开办,共招生九期,最后停办的确切时间是1923年8月。据《民国元年至民国十七年官员任命册》可知,保定军校的第七任校长张鸿绪任职时间是1921年6月30日。第八任校长,也是最后一任校长孙树林任职时间是1922年10月26日。这表明,1920年以后保定军校并未终结。各种有关资料也说明,保定军校第八期毕业时间是1922年7月,第九期1923年8月毕业。这时,资金、教学设备都难于维持,学生来源中断,北洋政府也无心管理军校事宜,直系军阀曹馄把军校一部分校舍划出成立直隶讲武堂,培植私人势力故保定军校无法再继续下去,不得不宜告停办。
