江苏溧阳东部有著名而奇特的“沸水塘”。民间传说明末沈万山曾写有:“上有沸水塘,下有百家圩”。有趣的是:沸水塘内有许多泉水小喷口,见有间歇性的喷气泡现象。气泡喷发几秒钟至十几秒钟后,间歇几秒至几十秒,有时甚至间歇几分钟后再出现。气泡往往成群出现,在阳光照射下闪闪发光,真似一串串美丽的珍珠。气泡上升时往往由小变大,到达水面后气泡破裂而击起朵朵水花,令人感到趣味盎然。特别有趣的是:在沸水塘的底部,出露有许多小喷口,喷水口直径约1厘米至3厘米。喷口呈圆形或椭圆形。人们通过清澈的水可以见到从喷口中不断喷射出的小水柱,水柱高约3厘米至4厘米左
