We measured the serum copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) levels and their ratios before treatment in 24 patients with primary lung cancer. As a result, the more extensive the cancer, the higher the Cu/Zn value. There was a significant difference in Cu/Zn values between patients who survived for more than 2 years and patients who did not exceed 2 years (P<0.001). It shows that the serum Cu/Zn value can be an important objective indicator for judging the extent of lung cancer and its prognosis.
