Not long ago, David Gretman trembled when his son settled in bed. Over the past few years, rising stock valuations have made him a millionaire - at least on paper, but now, with more than $ 700,000 borrowed, it has put Grettman in jeopardy. The market has been in a sudden downturn, and in the past few months he has been forced to borrow money to make up for the escalating losses in his margin trading. This call for margin calls, combined with the cheap sell-off, cost him almost $ 1 million, close to 80% of his total investment. “My heart was feeling at the time,” Gretman recalled. “Be careful, but I’ve been robbed.”
