东方市,位于海南岛的西南部,西濒北部湾,与越南隔海相望,是海南省3个滨海港口城市之一,市区依托大型深水天然良港八所港而建,海、陆、空交通便利;东方市不仅地理位置优越,而且历史悠久,自西汉武帝元封元年在这片土地上置九龙县始,至今已历经两千多年的风雨沧桑。古九龙,新东方,旧貌新颜写华章。中海油东方化工城的兴建,给予东方市新的历史机遇。回顾过去,展望未来,东方市有着怎样的雄心壮志?2004年元旦刚过,带着这个问题,本刊记者专访了东方市委书记黄成模。
