A flood occurred in November 1968, when floods overwhelmed the 50-foot, 15.3-meter high section of the Cethana Dam (eventually reaching a height of 360 feet or 110 meters). The details of the incident are described in references. The reason for the damage is the same as described by the designer of the Bridle-Drift dam. The 4.5 ft (1.37 m) of the rockfill in that period was only partially protected by an anchored 2-in. (5 cm) chain. Flood flood pile up to 5 hours. During this period, the top unprotected rockfill was eroded along the surface of the dam protection section
