从“整风”到“审干”《还是杂文的时代》的出现不是偶然的。主观上,与罗烽的人生经历、性格气质和思维逻辑相关;客观上,与当时延安的环境、氛围、思潮也是密不可分的。1942年3月中旬至4月上旬,《解放日报》副刊《文艺》发表了一系列引人瞩目的短文:丁玲:《三八节有感》;艾青:《了解作家,尊重作家》;罗烽:《还是杂文的时代》;实味:《野百合花》。同一时期,《谷雨》上发表了王实味的《政治家,艺术家》,中央“青委”的壁报《轻骑队》、中央研究院的壁报《矢与的》上也刊载了一批类似的短文。艾青在文章中写道:
It is not by chance that the emergence of “rectification” to “trial-drying” or “era of essays”. Subjectively, it is related to Luo Feng’s life experience, personality temperament and thinking logic; objectively, it is closely related to Yan’an’s environment, atmosphere and trend of thoughts. From mid March to early April 1942, a series of remarkable essays were published in Literary Arts, the supplement of Jiefang Daily: Ding Ling: “Feelings of March 8”; Ai Qing: “Understanding Writers and Respecting Writers”; Luo Feng : “Or era of essay”; Really: “wild lilies.” In the same period, “Gu Yu” published Wang Shiwei’s “politicians and artists” and the “Youth Riding Team”, a poster of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, and a series of similar essays were also published on the “Yayu” of the Central Academy’s poster.
