Objective To understand the iodine nutrition level of residents in Wenzhou and provide evidence for the prevention of iodine deficiency disorders. Methods The multi-stage sampling method was used to extract 3 300 households, 2 200 children aged 8-10 and 1 100 pregnant women in 11 counties (cities and districts) in Wenzhou City. According to GB / T 13025.7-2012 “Salt Industry General Test methods iodine determination ”and other related standards testing and assessment of household consumption of salt iodine, urinary iodine and thyroid enlargement of children as well as urinary iodine in pregnant women and their families salt iodine content. Results The median of iodized salt consumed by households was 22.50 mg / kg in Wenzhou. The iodized salt coverage and the qualified iodized salt consumption rates were 80.47% and 73.03% respectively. The prevalence of goiter in children aged 8-10 years was 2.35%, the median urinary iodine was 147.2μg / L, and urinary iodine <50μg / L accounted for 11.07%. Pregnant women urinary iodine median 104.83μg / L, urinary iodine <50μg / L accounted for 17.04%. The iodine-iodine median of pregnant women was 22.17 mg / kg, the coverage rate of iodized salt and the qualified iodized salt were 83.05% and 77.76% respectively. There was a positive correlation between urinary iodine concentration and salt iodine concentration in the pregnant women (rs = 0.105, P <0.01) ). Conclusion The coverage rate of iodine salt and the rate of qualified iodized salt in Wenzhou residents are low. The iodine nutrition of children is suitable and iodine deficiency of pregnant women is insufficient.
