The Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011 brought two important revelations to people in dealing with environmental issues (mainly referring to energy conservation here). First, people must consider both supply and demand in the face of energy conservation and sustainability issues. Those who engage in construction activities tend to be on a demand-or-consumer-standpoint, so they view the sustainability of the energy conservation of buildings and facilities from a consumer perspective only. The painful lesson shows that in the past, the lack of a supply-side perspective was totally inappropriate.
