初见杨晓阳,我觉得他好像古代西域人,体魄雄健,相貌奇伟。其实他是汉族,生于西安,长于西安。2008年1月,我应邀到西安美术学院为研究生讲座,当时他作为西安美术学院院长曾设宴款待。2010年6月,我又到西安美术学院参加博士研究生导师杨晓阳指导的学生毕业论文答辩,他已于2009年调任中国国家画院院长。他的学生们都特别听话,从美术专业的各个领域把他倡导的“大写意”理论逐一展开,我认为他们的博士学位论文的总体水平,不亚于我们中国艺术研究院或中央美术学院的学生。据说导师为他们完成论文特意开设了中国传统文化的多门课程。答辩间歇,杨晓阳陪同我们观摩西安美术学院的珍贵藏画和他为学院收藏的彩陶、石刻、拴马桩、炕头石狮子等大批文物,给我留下了很深的印象。给我印象最深的一幕,是他的学生们到成阳机场送
First met Yang Xiaoyang, I think he seems like the ancient Western people, physique, looks wonderful. In fact, he is a Han nationality, born in Xi’an, longer than Xi’an. In January 2008, I was invited to Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts as a graduate student lecture, when he served as president of Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts hosted a dinner. In June 2010, I went to the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts to attend the student thesis dissertation defense directed by the doctoral tutor Yang Xiaoyang. In 2009, I was transferred to the president of China National Painting Academy. His students are particularly obedient, starting from the “big sketch” theory he advocated in all fields of fine arts, and I think the overall level of their doctoral dissertations is no less than that of China Academy of Art or Central Academy of Fine Arts College student. It is said that the tutor deliberately opened many courses for Chinese traditional culture for their thesis. Intermittent reply, Yang Xiaoyang accompanied us to observe the precious art collection of Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts and his collection of colored pottery, stone carvings, horse stakes, stone lions and other large kangtou artifacts, left a deep impression on me.
