More than 400 years ago, Macau was already a commercial port and has since maintained the characteristics of a free port. The area of land in Macao is not large but its population density is high. It enjoys convenient traffic with the Mainland and Hong Kong. Entering the late 1970s, the rapid development of the industry, tourism and construction industries combined with the rapid population growth and the opening up of the Mainland’s policies led to the overheating of local consumption and the booming of commercial activities in Macao. The characteristics of Macao’s business are: First, the market is small but there are many shops with great potential. Second, the market is highly dependent and most of the major commodities are supplied by imports, with little supply of local products.
