香港唐健垣先生在一九八一年出版的《唐氏粤曲唱本》中,曾作如下介绍:“在四十、五十、六十年代,有一位在省(广州)港澳均颇有名气的业余唱家李向荣氏,以唱腔慢而沉、声音有磁性、唱情入情绪出名,友人称他为低音王、鼻音王、慢王之王。画家邓芬於李氏某次客串于香港一歌座时赠以‘豉味歌王李向荣’大花牌,遂习称其腔为豉味腔,称其所撰之曲(云雨巫山枉断肠、离鸾秋怨、长恨歌……)为豉味曲。豉味者,言如豉味双蒸酒,越欣赏越有味道也。”与李向荣同一时期,有业余唱家江峰、“七省琴王”袁清华等均爱好豉味腔,袁氏且撰有《不如归》、《迟暮吟》等曲。广州名伶陈笑风先生虽然唱腔不低沉,但因以情胜、有味道、故可列为同一派。陈笑风的《山伯临终》处理,就是参照《巫山云雨枉断肠》而作出的。本期介绍几首豉味粤曲,以飨读者。其中《迟暮吟》经张法刚先生再加工整理,以词谱对照形式刊出,并附张法刚先生所写《“豉味腔”与“迟暮吟”》一文,读者大可边看边吟,领略一下曲中之“豉味”也。
