日本近代文学先驱二叶亭四迷的小说《浮云》围绕着一对青年男女恋情的波折,将“文明女学生”形象引入日本近代文学的视野。这一女性形象的出现,标志着明治维新二十年后,女性的社会地位有所提高;伴随着“人”的自觉的萌生,“爱”的自觉开始崭露头角,为构建日本近代爱情观做好最初的铺垫。但由于市民社会的形成时日尚浅,加之文明开化的不彻底,近代的“爱”在受挫后失去方向。
