We measured the content of Ca, Mg, Cu, Zn in hair of 40 patients with acute cerebral infarction by atomic absorption spectrometry and compared with 50 normal controls. The levels of Mg and Zn in the diseased group were significantly lower (both P <0001), Cu decreased (P <005), and Ca did not change significantly (P> 005). There was no significant difference between male and female patients in the diseased group. These results show that the changes of trace elements of Mg, Cu and Zn in the development of acute cerebral infarction have important clinical reference value and may be one of the causes of acute cerebral infarction.
