William C.Byham, DDI Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Development Dimensions International, Inc. Founder. DDI is a global HR consulting firm specializing in the design and implementation of leadership development and talent selection systems. Prior to founding DDI in 1970, Dr. Whiteham served as the head of selection, assessment and executive development for J. C. Penney Company. While working at Penny and DDI, Dr. Whiteham pioneered many of the key human resources technologies that have had a significant impact on people management. These techniques include: Center for Assessment Methods, Behavioral Interviews, Code of Conduct, Work Behavior Analysis Methods, and Talent Accelerator Repository. These techniques are illustrated in Dr. Birch’s 21 books and 171 articles. Together with colleagues at DDI, Dr. Whiteham has developed executive development programs to diagnose leadership shortcomings and other programs to help thousands of businesses around the world fill leadership vacancies. He also published more than 20 articles discussing the growing scarcity of skilled and experienced executives and outlining the steps businesses can take to avert this. Dr. Whiteham is particularly known for his achievements in the field of assessment. For over 30 years, he has been the principal researcher and developer of this technology. He authored and edited two books devoted to the study and application of this technology - “Assessment Centers and Managerial Performance” (co-authored with George Thornton) and “ Applying the Assessment Center Method ”(ed. With Joseph Moses). Dr. Whiteham, an internationally renowned educator, consultant and speaker, has received numerous honors. These include the Outstanding Contribution to Human Resources Development Award from the American Association for Training and Development, the Outstanding Professional Contribution Award from the Industrial and Organizational Psychology Association, and the Outstanding Contribution to Psychological Practice by the Institute of Management Psychologists.
