The European Union has approved the Swedish Energy Board to invest Chemland 500 million (55 million euros) to fund Chemrec’s development of bio-methanol and dimethyl ether. The fund will be used to build a pilot plant at the Domsjo Fabriker biorefinery in Sweden (Olster) ldsvik. The pilot plant will use Chemrec’s gasification technology in conjunction with advanced technologies for fuel production, using biologically-derived methanol and bio-DME from forest harvested residues as energy sources. Investment in the project is estimated at about SEK 3 billion. The project includes two installations, one for the production of 140,000 t / a bio-methanol and the other for 100,000 t / a bio-DME.
