玉米因其低脂肪和富含B族维生素、有益人体免疫力之特性而成为三大主食品种之一。尤其鲜嫩玉米,因水份大、活性物多、风味独特、营养丰富而备受钟爱。但是嫩玉米因糖份散失快只能即采即食而不能保鲜储存。近年来,各地曾利用冷库低温储藏保鲜,虽可保持一定鲜度,但耗电多、成本高,尤其大批量、远距离运输销售形不成产业规模。海南绿神生物技术公司的生物专家王向前教授经二十多年潜心研究,利用生物工程技术研制成功的鲜玉米常温保鲜项目填补了该项空白,它可使各种品种的鲜嫩玉米在常温下生产、储存、保鲜、运输,保鲜期一年以上。
