The LEP project is the world’s largest accelerator, nine kilometers in diameter, under construction at the European Nuclear Research Center (CERN). CERN, co-chaired by thirteen European nations, brings together the best of Europe’s top scientists and technicians and is currently ahead of the United States in basic particle physics research. CERN’s technical level also represents the current state of the art in Europe. In microcomputer applications, standardization, serialization and CMOS components, are two major characteristics of the current technological development.
