NEC Corporation recently announced the successful implementation of 6.4 Tbps (40 Gbps × 160 channels) transmission speed in a 186 km unremitting optical cable transmission line using a high-density wavelength division multiple WAN (DWDM) method. This result is equivalent to about twice the maximum record owned by NEC of 3.28 Tbps, which can be transmitted simultaneously by one optical cable
