Over the years, I have come to form an idea. I have also said in many places: Cultural exchange is one of the important conditions for promoting the advancement of human society. This of course includes literary exchanges. For the study of the history of the exchange of Chinese and foreign literature, we have done some useful work in the past and achieved gratifying results. However, I always find it biased. To put it plainly, studying foreign literature has more influence on Chinese literature, while studying Chinese literature has less influence on foreign literature. This is what I call biased. Such a biased, seemingly minor, affecting real big. At a minimum, it would provide unrealistic information to foreign literati and Chinese literati, even Chinese and foreign people. As a result, foreigners will have the feeling of egoism, while Chinese will have some sense of inferiority. None of these should be unfavorable, nor are they realistic.
