Most recently, C & EN classified 17 of the 100 largest chemical-manufacturing products in the United States for sales into 17 categories, including basic chemicals, petroleum, fine chemicals and agrochemicals, with the largest sales of the first three categories. There are 28 fine chemical companies in 100 enterprises, with total sales of 41.3 billion U.S. dollars in 1997. At the same time announced the employment of chemists in various manufacturing industries, of which pharmaceutical industry ranks first, employing 23.7% of all industrial chemists; followed by the fine chemical industry, employing 13.5% of all industrial chemists; the third for the plastics industry , Hiring 4.7% of all industrial chemists. Broadly speaking, pharmaceutical is also a fine chemical, fine chemicals has been given unprecedented attention and development. Fine chemical industry is a high-tech industry, so that the degree of refinement is a measure of a country’s chemical industry uneven scale.
