Mark Bloch’s “The Art of Historians” is a book of great significance to me. When I was a graduate student, I happened to encounter the rise of Chinese history documentaries. Many documentary authors mentioned the inspiration of the French Yearbook School and the study of social history for documentary ideas. I was also curious about these films under the influence of Whitehead’s The Theory of Film and Television History: these seemingly more vivid historical presentations, in addition to the search for a series of more unpolluted historical materials In addition, with respect to our history, what is beyond the value of predecessors? With such a problem, I began to systematically read the books of the French Yearbook School, Mark Bloch is a well-known representative of this school, The Book of Historians’ Craftsmanship is also included in my book list.
