During the World Conference on Women, organizing non-governmental organization forums (hereinafter referred to as forums) is a common practice of similar meetings of the United Nations. It is an ancillary meeting of the World Conference on Women and is the main forum for civil society to discuss womens issues, often exceeding the number of members of the General Assembly itself. There is no formal agenda for the forum, and participants can each express their own views and fail to adopt resolutions and declarations. The suggestions made during the discussion can be forwarded to the General Assembly through government representatives or observers from non-governmental organizations present at the meeting. During the first World Conference on Women in Mexico City in 1975, participants in the Forum discussed common problems and solutions that women in all countries faced. 1980
