Since 1968, scientists from the Soviet Union and Japan have collaborated on the study of the crust and upper mantle structure in the Pacific Ocean. The first phase (from 1968 to 1970) was based on the familiarity with the deep seismic exploration methods of the two countries. Based on the characteristics of deep geological exploration methods in the two countries, the deep structure of the geological tectonic crust and the upper mantle in the two countries was studied. The Thousand Islands - Kamchatka Peninsula and Japan Island arc; the geophysical map of the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk was drawn; and the deep structure of the volcanic belt was studied, thus making it possible to carry out the zoning of seismic and volcanic rocks close to the purpose of predicting earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. In the second phase (1971-1978), the Soviet Union and Japan collaborated on the geophysics and volcanology work on deep volcanism, volcanic petrology, magmatic characteristics, evolution of deep fluids and hydrothermal activities. The third stage (1978 ~), drawn through the Asian continent too
