在英语文章的阅读与理解过程中,我们常常会发现有些句子残缺不全。这是由于句子中的某些成分有时在句中不必出现,或者前面已出现过,为了避免重复,而被省略掉了。如:Hope tohear from you soon.这是个简单句,其主语 I 省略;又如:He ma-jors in English and I,in French,这是一个并列句,在后半句中省略了谓语动词 major,因前面已出现过,后面不必重复。上述句中的省略现象其本身意思很清楚,比较容易懂,但有些省略句则要靠上下文或说话的场合来把意思弄清楚,如找不出省略的有关词语,就会产生误解,妨碍对原文作透彻的理解,更谈不上准确的翻译。下面分类举例作些说明。
