Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd. in New York, USA, is using exclusive patent license from DuPont, Wilmington, Delaware, and is developing two different types of high temperature, low dielectric constant plastic optical fiber. According to M. Kitazawa, a marketing manager at Los Angeles-based Mitsubishi Rayon Co., both fibers are made of amorphous fluoropolymer Teflon AF but have not disclosed the program’s fiscal project. Unlike other polytetrafluoroethylenes, such as semicrystalline polytetrafluoroethylene (PFA), polytetrafluoroethylene (AF), which is an amorphous, transparent material and which is internally reflective, makes it suitable for use in optical waveguides. Two types of fiber under development, the first using non-proprietary polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) engineering plastics as the core, are clad with polytetrafluoroethylene (AF). Kitazawa said that because of this core can withstand 135 ℃,
