陈登原在1936年出版了他的《古今典籍聚散考》,这部著作对中国历代典籍的散佚存亡论述详尽,很有史料价值.或许是时代的局限,此著似有点详古略今,特别是对典籍的外流,多语焉不详.笔者在此以近现代的海外访书为线索,略作钩沉,以存一段书林掌故.张元济尝言:“一国艺事之进退,与其政治之隆污,民心之仁暴,有息息相通之理.况在书籍,为国民智识之寄托,为古人千百年之所留贻.”(《涉园序跋集录·宝礼堂宋本书录》)因此从典籍的海外流散,可稍窥近现代腐败的政治给典籍带来的厄难,亦可见名人学者为保存文化前赴后继的不懈努力.
