Objective To investigate the expression of apoptosis-suppressing genes bcl-2, p53 and ki-67 in transitional cell carcinoma of bladder (TCC) and cystitis glandula (CC) and their relationship with the differentiation and infiltration of TCC. Methods Immunohistochemical Dako Envision System was used to determine the expression of bcl-2, p53 and ki-67 in 72 cases of TCC and 47 cases of CC. Results The positive rates of Bcl-2, p53 and ki-67 expression in TCC were 31.9%, 65.3% and 51.4%, respectively, and the positive rates in CC were 89.4%, 14.9% and 10.6% High expression of p53 and ki-67, ki-67 overexpression also significantly associated with TCC infiltration. Conclusions The occurrence and development of TCC are related to the uncontrolled regulation of bcl-2 and p53 genes. The expression of bcl-2 may be an early event in the tumorigenesis of TCC. The high expression of p53 and ki-67 is a marker of low differentiation and invasiveness of TCC.
