阿拉善荒漠研究中心从一九八二年开始,在格灵滩实验基地西边的流动沙区的丘间低地和半固定缓起伏沙地上进行了沙生灌木容器苗造林试验,通过三年多的对比观察,取得了较好的效果,为阿拉善荒漠造林摸索了一些规律和经验。试验地拔海1360米,年均降水量200毫米左右,且63％集中在7、8、9三个月,而年均蒸发量却高达2200毫米,为降水量的11倍。这里干旱多风,地下水位深达80米左右。试验用的树种是选用适宜当地生长、抗逆性强的沙拐枣、梭梭、花棒、柠条和锦鸡
