此幅作品是董寿平“朱砂红梅”成熟时期的代表作品。图中梅树先用大笔醮焦墨画出主干及小枝,断而若续地留出花朵空白。又用稍有旋转的笔锋合着朱砂画出花瓣,水份掌握适当,透明、鲜活、浓淡相宜,质感很强。枝头朱梅或含苞待放,或吐艳怒开,都有不同的形态。构图布局力求塑造繁花满枝的梅树形象,位置经营精心巧妙。朵朵梅花各呈姿态,花瓣的正、反、侧面各合其趣,老干虬枝盘曲遒劲,涂点花蕊婀娜多姿,凝视画面犹有寒香扑鼻之感。
