昆明院建院已４０周年。该院五六十年代成功地勘测、设计、建设了以礼河梯级水电站；８０年代大胆改革，锐意开放，促成鲁布革电站利用世行贷款，进行水电建设体制改革，在全国掀起了“鲁布革冲击”，并成功地建成了漫湾水电站；近些年来，致力于澜沧江水电开发，促进西电东送和跨国输电。昆明院十分注重科技开发，如今已成为专业齐全，技术力量雄厚，能承担５００万ｋＷ以上电站、３００ｍ以上高拱坝、２００ｍ以上高土石坝设计，跻身于全国勘测设计单位综合实力百强、云南省勘测设计单位综合实力名列第一和省级文明单位
Kunming Institute hospital has been the 40th anniversary. In the 1950s and 1960s, the institute successfully surveyed, designed and constructed the Lihe Cascade Hydropower Station. In the 1980s, it boldly reformed and opened its doors to facilitate the reform of the hydropower construction system at Lubuge Station, which led to the establishment of “ Cloth shock ”and successfully built Manwan Hydropower Station; in recent years, dedicated to the development of the Lancang River hydropower, and promote the West to East and transnational transmission.
