教授一种语言的根本目的,是培养学习者用目的语进行交际能力,这一点已为第二语言教学界所公认,同时它也体现了语言教学的根本任务。吕叔湘先生曾这样指出:“语言是什么?说是‘工具’。什么‘工具’?说是‘人们交流思想的工具’。可是打开任何一本讲话言的书来看,都只看见‘工具’,‘人们’没有了。语音啊,语法啊,词汇啊,条分缕析,没有讲人们怎么使唤这种工具。”(1980)这番话无疑是一针见血地指出了我们的教材和教学的弊病:学生实际运用语言能力的欠缺。语言教学的根本目的和根本任务,都是要教会学习者“怎
