Objective: To study the effect of metoprolol on early post-depolarization (EAD) in vivo in rabbits to explore the mechanism of metoprolol in the treatment of ventricular arrhythmia. Methods: The electrocardiogram of epicardial single-phase action potential (MAP) was recorded by contact electrode and the electrophysiological effect of metoprolol on heart was observed. Metoprolol reduced the amplitude of EAD [EAD% (26.52 ± 1.84)%], compared with the control group [EAD% reached (33.8 ± 4.36)%], the difference was significant P <0. 05). Conclusion: Post-depolarization is one of the mechanisms of arrhythmia. Metoprolol inhibits EAD and provides a theoretical basis for the treatment of some arrhythmias by metoprolol.
