从1958年开始,笔者先后从我国华北、东北引进了在原产地生育期90—95天的大白菜品种一批。按照临洮县“头伏萝卜二伏菜”的农事季节,于8月1日播种,到11月上旬临冻时收获,该批品种虽己长够95天,但未能结成紧实的叶球。后又提前10天在7月21日播种,到11月8日临冻收获时,生育期长达110天,有些品种如北京大青口、抱头青、天津青麻叶、大核桃纹、胶县大白菜等,虽能长成较为紧实的叶球,但因感染病毒,脱帮腐烂,产量不高不稳,品质大大下降,并且不耐贮藏。而山东沿海的福山大包头等品种,还是叶球空虚,生长不良。以后又从早熟品种入手,引进了华北各省生育期70—75天的太原1号、郑州早黑叶、
