Colitis melanosis is caused by macrophages in the epithelial and subepithelial phagocytosis of laxative-induced apoptosis of mucosal epithelial cells. Although many studies have been conducted on the composition of the pigment, the composition of the pigment remains unclear. Such complex pigments are autofluorescent and exhibit lipofuscin (age-related) histochemical properties. Although phytohemagglutinin has been used to detect the sugar content of lipofuscin and various waxy pigment, it has not been used to study the pigment of colorectal melanosis, and research is to make up for this gap. Methods: 8 patients with melanosis and 3 healthy subjects
