[May 2013] INTRODUCTION The U.S. Department of Energy announced on April 16, 2013 a R & D project for dry storage of spent fuel. The project will design and demonstrate dry storage container technology for storing spent fuel depleted. Fuel burnup is closely related to the amount of energy extracted by the nuclear power plant from fuel. In the past few years, the United States has made many advances in fuel technology. As a result, the fuel consumption of nuclear power generating units has been continuously raised, thus doubling the amount of energy that nuclear power operators can draw from fuel.
