It has been clarified that in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), there is a correlation between urinary microalbumin and cardiovascular mortality. However, the relationship between clinical urinary protein and the incidence of arteriosclerotic disease is poorly understood, especially in non-diabetic patients. The relationship between urinary protein and stroke or peripheral arterial disease has rarely been reported. The authors assess the relationship between urinary protein and arteriosclerotic disease to varying degrees. The subjects were from eastern and western Finland, aged from 45 to 64 years old. Except for those with elevated serum creatinine, they were divided into two groups. One was NIDDM, 1056 (580 males and 476 females), and the other group was non-diabetic
