20世纪前期,由于美国政府退回多掠庚子赔款及民国政府相关鼓励留学政策,中国出现了留学美国的热潮,产生了一批留美历史学人。他们学成归国以后,纷纷走进高等院校或科研机构,从事历史教学与研究,为中国的史学建设贡献力量。潘炳皋即是留美历史学人之一,生前曾任河北师范学院(今河北师范大学)历史系世界近现代史教研室主任、教授。目前,关于潘炳皋的研究,除有封世辉《“师范大学代表三人”的鲁迅访问记》(载《鲁迅研究月刊》1991
In the early 20th century, due to the U.S. government’s refusal to pay more Gengzi compensation and the government’s encouragement of studying abroad, China experienced a boom in studying in the United States and a number of historians in the United States emerged.
