In October 1998, Zheng Zhouyong, founder and honorary president of Hyundai Corporation, the largest conglomerate in South Korea, went straight to North Korea from Panmunjom a few months ago and again sent 3,000 North cattle to North Korea before returning to North Korea. North Korean leader Kim Jong Il met with Zheng Zhou Yong and held a group photo with him. When Zheng Zhou Yong returned to South Korea, he announced that he had fully agreed with Pyongyang that it would carry out a series of joint-venture projects in North Korea. One of the key joint-venture projects commenced on November 18, 1998 with two luxury yachts transporting 2,000 tourists a week to Mount Kumkum, a scenic spot on the east coast of North Korea. Other Hyundai agreements reached with North Korea include exploration of offshore oil and the construction of a nuclear power plant, a modern gymnasium and a ship repair shop.
