用籼、粳型两用核不育系与生产上推广的优良籼稻品种或具有某1~2个特异性状的种质进行广泛配组杂交,多代选择,以期育成新的两用核不育系。通过多年培育选择,已选出具有育性转换明显的两用核不育材料20份.其中从 K-7S/03的后代中选出的0821S,无论育性还是经济性状均已稳定.用自然光照(长日)和10小时定光处理,在高温条件下均表现不育。1991~1993年在自然条件下分期播种观察,从7月20日至9月17日为稳定的不育期,镜检花粉不育率均在99%以上,自然结实率0;9月17~19日起,逐步转为可育,其育性转换特性与其它温敏型两用核不育系相似,亦属温敏型两用核不育系.该不育系属早籼稻类型,全生育期比 W6154S 迟2~3天,5月下旬播种,播始天数60~63天,6月中旬播种,播始天数50多天,活动积温1700℃左右;株高70cm 左右,分蘖力中等,每穗颖花数90~104个,千粒重20.7g;稃尖无色,谷粒细长(长宽比3.1),胚乳半透明,无垩白,外观品质优良;开花习性好,柱头外露率53.6%;感光性弱,感温性强.经用4个籼稻品种分别与0821S、8902S、W6154S 测交,对其 F_1的产量性状观察,0821S 配的杂种千粒重较轻,但每穗总粒数明显高于其它二个核不育系配的杂种,其余产量性状与另二个核不育系配的后代无显著差异,但是,米粒外观品质明显优于8902S、W6154S 测交的杂一代,表现为米粒细长,无垩白或垩白极少,胚乳半透明,因此,初步认为0821S 在稻米品质性状上有良好的配合力,是一个有利用价值的优质籼型核不育系.
