北京室外种植王莲,5月下旬至6月上旬在露天水池内定植,一般8月上旬开花,群集开花持续期60天,每株可开花17—18朵,单朵花花期一般2天,初花多在18—19时开放。花朵白色,浓香,次日上午8—9时闭合,此时里层花瓣已出现粉红色,至下午15—16时再次开放,初为粉红后呈深紫色。进入10月上旬,由于水温已低于20℃,植株不能正常生长,花朵也不再变色。作露天栽培生长周期约240天。
