由思想文化领域的知识阶层发起的社会改造运动主要是从理性主义的抽象原则出发的,而社会改造又是需要激情来推动的,由此理性的激情化就为现代文学文化的兴盛提供了助力。五四新文化运动具有一种抽象的文学政治的性质,它从抽象的理性法则出发,力图在政治上同一切现实的政治势力切割;在文化上与固有的传统决裂,以理性作为文化建构的唯一原则。这是一种以具有普世性的理性主义的世界观和处世态度取代特殊主义、地缘主义的传统文化的努力。他们的文化信念带有明显的现代末世论色彩,着眼于从终极的理想状态来看待现实。
The social reform movement initiated by the intelligentsia in the field of ideology and culture mainly starts from the abstract principle of rationalism, which is driven by passion. It proceeded from the abstract rational laws and tried to cut off politically all the actual political forces. It ruptured culturally from its inherent tradition and constructed it rationally as culture The only principle. This is an effort to replace the specialism and the traditionalist culture of geography by adopting a world view of universality and rationalism. Their cultural beliefs bear a clear modern eschatological tone, looking at the reality from the ultimate ideal state.
