将于1997年7月1日出任香港特区首任行政长官的董建华,现为全国人大香港特区筹委会副主任委员、八届全国政协委员会委员、国务院港澳办和新华社香港分社香港事务顾问。董建华于1937年在上海出生,曾分别在上海、香港和英国接受教育。他在参选前任香港政府行政局议员和东方海外(国际)有限公司主席兼行政总裁。董建华与夫人赵洪娉及三子女、两孙女,全家现居住在香港。董建华在16日被任命为香港特别行政区第一任行政长官后说,香港是一个充满希望和机会的社会。在即将回归祖国的历史性时刻,香港市民应好好把握历史机遇,共创美好明天。同日晚上,在香港中华总商会举行的庆祝宴会上,董建华在致词中再次感谢400位推委会委员和600万市民给予他的人生最高荣誉并表示一定会尽己所能、为香港、为国家、为中华民族作出贡献。
