岩石学、矿物学和分析工作都是地质工作中最重要的基础理论学科。解放以来,我国地质事业突飞猛进,为这些学科提供了广阔的前景,同时也促进了它们的发展。 现在从事岩石、矿物、分析工作的人员已数以万计,他们在生产方面已为国家作出了突出的贡献,在科学研究方面取得了辉煌的成就,发现了许多新矿物、新的矿床和新的岩石类型,议定了岩石分类命名,完善和创立了新的分析方法,丰富了有关学科的理论,密切了科研与生产的联系。 1979年以来,中国地质学会岩矿测试技术专业委员会、岩石学专业委员会和矿物学专业 Petrology, mineralogy and analytical work are all the most important basic theoretical disciplines in geological work.
