机关报晚报是承担机关报任务的晚报,始于60年代初。1961年羊城晚报承担了广州市委机关报的任务。以后又陆续出现过西安晚报、成都晚报、南昌晚报等同类型的报纸。但在当时,这种报纸应该怎样办,它和新民晚报、北京晚报有何不同,还不很明确。到1965年,中南局第一书记陶铸对当时承担了中南局机关报任务的羊城晚报指出,“它应该办成基本上是晚报的样子”,才开始有了办报的基调。
