October 7, 2004 Nobel Prize for Literature was announced. The result was quite surprising. The winner was the internationally renowned Austrian woman writer Elfriede Je-linek, who was the first Austrian to win this award. According to the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences, the Nobel Prize in literature is awarded to her because of her “novels and dramatic voices and antagonistic voices that constitute a river of music, exposing the absurdity and power in the trivial language of society in a unique language passion.” Jernek was born on 20 October 1946 in Styria, Mitchushla
