McCain made a speech after the Senate Intelligence Committee announced today (December 9) a report on the abuse of prisoners since the CIA incident on September 11. In view of the above background, McCain’s speech deserves attention. He said: “Torture undermined our most distinctive feature of being different from the enemy”; those CIA agents who tortured “tarnished our national honor.” This is a bold statement, but not necessarily exaggerated.
