In Papua New Guinea, there is Bougainville Island, an area of more than 10,000 square kilometers. The island has about 900 million tonnes of copper deposits, comparable to Zambia, Africa’s “copper-mining country.” Bougainville copper is located in the southern princes of the island. Where the lower ground, easy to mine, easy to transport. In the past, because of its rich mineral resources, the island was once one of the most important gold mining places in the world. After the gold rush, a large number of copper deposits were discovered here in the 1960s and development began in 1972. With the absorption of foreign capital and the use of advanced mining technology and equipment, put into operation has become the world’s largest copper mines. There is a huge open pit mining site on the northwestern tip of the Bougainville copper district. Its large, modern electric shovel shovels up to 22 tonnes of ore at a time; it has a load of 100 tons to 170 tons
