Immersed tunnels crossing the western port of Hong Kong built by the joint venture Nishimatsu Kumagai have progressed rapidly, shortening the original planned timetable and are expected to be completed by March next year, three months ahead of schedule. The last section of immersion tube has been successfully released to the exact position of the seafloor. The total length of the tunnel is 1363m, which is composed of 12 prefabricated pipe sections with a weight of 35,000 tons and a length of 113m, a width of 33.5m and a height of 8.8m. Pipe sections are mass-produced in Sheko’s dedicated dry dock. each
